ROMEO GANDOLFI – FLORENCE (undated)
A beautifully executed instrument by a member of a four generation violin making family in Ferrara, Cremona, Florence and the USA. Cleanest workmanship — meticulous f holes, sharply defined scribed scroll volutes and perfect symmetry highlight this marvelous instrument. Bookended two piece back of bold and symmetrically flamed maple. Ribs and scroll also of the finest woods. The top of straight, close-grained Bosnian spruce, all covered with a splendid oil varnish of superb pliability and transparency. The violin is branded “GR” by the maker on one of the corner blocks and the neck block.
